CNS has not only developed sub-specialty clinics in the office but is honored to have created the first neuroscience department at FMH. We have partnered with FMH to develop its Certified Stroke Program which has earned the Gold Plus Award, and established the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) which will assist in ascertaining the true nature and type of seizures or spells.
Stroke Clinic: The only board-certified stroke specialist in the region, Dr. Shahid Rafiq, leads this clinic and here we treat transient neurological problems, mini strokes or TIA, stroke, recurrent falls, numbness, language or swallowing difficulties, memory and gait problems, secondary stroke prevention, carotid ultra sound and transcranial doppler, risk factor evaluation, and stratification.
Epilepsy Clinic: The only fellowship trained and board-certified epileptologist in the region, Dr. David Strayhorn, leads this clinic at CNS as well as the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at FMH for the diagnosis and treatment of seizures and epilepsy. We order and provide expert interpretation of routine and prolonged EEGs, with or without video, on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Neuromuscular Clinic: The only neuromuscular specialist in the region, Dr. Sean Burke, leads this clinic and we treat numbness, tingling, limb and back pain, muscle weakness, rippling and shrinking muscles, recurrent falls and gait failure, neuropathy and other nerve diseases, neuromuscular junction disorders, Myasthenia gravis, Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), swallowing difficulties, double vision, EMG/NCS testing, evoke potential testing, and nerve and muscle biopsy.
Sleep Clinic: Two sleep specialists, Dr. Shahid Rafiq and Dr. David Strayhorn, lead this clinic. This clinic treats sleep disorders including difficulty falling and/or staying asleep, snoring, daytime tiredness and sleepiness, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, shift work, irregular sleep wake cycle, pre-surgical (especially bariatric surgery evaluation), and complete solutions to management of sleep apnea with mask machines and follow-ups.
Multiple Sclerosis Clinic: The only MS specialist in the region, Dr. Sean Burke, also leads this clinic. Care in this sub-specialty includes comprehensive evaluation, management, and complete care of patients with MS from diagnosis through complications.
Memory Clinic: Care in this area includes evaluation and management of the forgetfulness, word finding difficulties, forgetting names and directions, dementia testing, neuro psych testing, social service resources and respite care, behavioral and personality changes, and hallucinations with memory problems.
Movement disorder and Parkinson's disease Clinic: Care in this clinic includes evaluation and management of Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's-like syndromes, dystonia, gait failure, recurrent falls, tremors, imbalance, and incoordination. The treatment options include Botox therapy as well as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery.
Migraine and Headache Clinic: Care in this clinic starts with complete evaluation and management of patients with daily headaches, tension headaches, cluster headaches, neck, head and face pain, complicated migraine, migraine variant, and secondary causes. Management of headaches includes Botox therapy for chronic daily migraine patients.
Botox Clinic: Care in Botox therapy is offered through well- trained neurologists for migraine headache, post-stroke spasticity, or stiffness and cramping or pain in the affected upper limb, dystonia and other movement disorders, excessive eye and facial twitching, and excessive sweating.
